Why Your OTP Might Be Delayed (and What to Do)
A one-time password that doesn't arrive is one of the most common login frustrations. Most of the time the cause is mundane — here's how to work through it methodically.
The most common causes
- Weak or no signal. SMS delivery depends on your carrier network — a weak signal or airplane mode will delay or block it entirely.
- Spam or junk filtering. Email OTPs sometimes land in spam, especially the first time a sender is used.
- Carrier or network congestion. SMS routing occasionally lags during high-traffic periods.
- Rate limiting. Requesting several codes in quick succession can trigger a short cooldown before another will send, as a spam-prevention measure.
- An outdated registered number or email. If you've changed your phone number or inbox and never updated it on the account, codes are going somewhere you can't see.
A step-by-step checklist
- Check your signal strength or Wi-Fi connection, and confirm airplane mode is off.
- Check your spam/junk folder if you're expecting an email code.
- Wait at least 60 seconds before requesting a new code — repeated requests can make the delay worse, not better.
- Confirm the registered mobile number or email on the account is still current.
- Try the alternate delivery method if one is offered (email instead of SMS, or vice versa).
- Restart the app or refresh the page — occasionally the request itself needs to be reissued cleanly.
One important red flag
If you receive an OTP for a login attempt you did not make, do not enter it anywhere, and treat it as a signal that someone else has your password. Change your password immediately from the official site and turn on two-factor authentication if it isn't already active.
