Setting Deposit and Time Limits: A Practical Guide
Limits are one of the simplest, most effective tools for keeping play enjoyable and firmly within your own control. Here's how they work and how to set them. 18+ only.
Why limits matter
Setting a limit before you start is far more effective than trying to make a judgment call in the moment. Limits act as a guardrail that holds regardless of how a session is going, taking the decision out of a moment where it's hardest to make well.
The main types of limits
- Deposit limits. A cap on how much you can add to your account over a day, week, or month.
- Loss limits. A cap on how much you're willing to lose in a given period, regardless of how much you've deposited.
- Session time limits. A reminder or automatic logout after a set amount of time playing in one sitting.
- Self-exclusion. A longer-term option to pause access to your account entirely for a fixed period.
How to set them
- Open your account's responsible gaming or account settings section on the official site or app.
- Choose the limit type that fits — most platforms let you set more than one at a time.
- Pick a period (daily, weekly, or monthly) and an amount or duration you're comfortable with.
- Confirm the change. Note that most platforms intentionally make limits harder to raise than to lower, often with a cooling-off period — that delay is a safety feature, not a bug.
Signs it might be time for a break
Chasing losses, spending more time or money than planned, or feeling anxious about not playing are all worth paying attention to. If any of that sounds familiar, a short break or self-exclusion period is a reasonable, low-friction step — not a last resort.
